A private house within a nature conservation area. The house is designed to capture and frame views, provide shelter from the wind and to optimize the use of passive solar energy and cross-ventilation.  The plan twists and turns to avoid the protected milkwood trees, creating a minimal impact to the profile of the heavily wooded coastal due. The living spaces are at the top of the house in order to benefit from the views, and flow onto a generous terrace, sheltered from the winds by a large fireplace, and from the sun by the branches of the trees. Solid parapets screen views of neighbouring houses, bringing the ocean apparently closer to the house. Every bedroom opens onto a private outdoor space. The planting scheme consisted simply of thinning the dense indigenous undergrowth from beneath the canopy and the planting of shade resistant grass.
