Won in open competition, the project evolved from a single building on a single site to a linear marketplace linking Hillbrow to the CBD, dealing along the way with making dangerous alleyways inaccessible to criminals whilst making the streets accessible to pedestrians. Carried out to an incredibly tight by Anthony Philbrick with extremely lightweight structural engineering by Alfred Noble.
